Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you; but to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing, so that also at the revelation of His glory you may rejoice with exultation. 1Peter 4:12-13
Your entire life is part of the process of your sanctification. To sanctify means to be set apart for a holy use. While our sins are completely forgiven when we accept Christ as Lord and savior (the fancy theological term for this is justification), we are still a work in progress. Sanctification is the lifelong process by which the Holy Spirit makes us more Christ-like. We are made more Holy as God refines us through the challenges or tests of life. Addiction is one of those tests or challenges. God did not make you an addict. You chose that road for yourself; but, God will use this affliction to refine you if you let Him.
See, I have refined you, though not as silver; I have tested you in the furnace of affliction. Isiah 48: 10
Rejoice that God loves you enough to refine you. Thank God for you afflictions. Remember, He suffered on the cross so that your suffering would not be in vain.
Pray: Dear God, refine me through this affliction, make me Holy for Your service. Grant me the comfort of Your presence during this trial, so that one day I may comfort others with the comfort you have given me. Amen.

I’ve always valued the “unseen” world as more important than the “seen”. However, one would not know that by my struggle. How often my cry is “I believe…help by unbelief.” I look forward to the day I cry out “Thank you Lord! I believe!” …..and believe with my whole heart, body and mind. But I do. I really do.

Amen. Mark 9:24: Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”
Help me with my unbelief. This has often been my cry. I lived many years as an agnostic before I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior. My agnostic mind still haunts me at times. I too long for unflinching faith; but, because of Mark 9:24 I am comforted by knowing that Jesus understands where I am coming from.
