Recovery Meditation #15

An intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge. Proverbs 18:15 ESV

It is good to have head knowledge about your addiction. This will help you learn to recognize when you are slipping into dysfunctional patterns of thought and help you to interrupt these patterns. It is also good to have heart knowledge about your addiction. This is best developed by strengthening your relationship with God. Jesus tells us in Matthew 11:29, “Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Learn from Jesus. Study the Bible. Ideally, find a Bible study at your church and enroll in it. Grow in your faith. Psalm 119:9 says: “How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word.” Learn from the Bible how to guard your way from evil with the Word.

Pray: God give me a passion for you and your Son, the Word. Help me find ways to understand You more, to know You better. Create in me a thirst for your Word, show me how to find the living waters in the Bible so that I may drink deeply, so that I may learn how to be free of my bondage to drugs and have the joy of salvation. Amen.
