In the thirty-ninth year of his reign Asa was afflicted with a disease in his feet. Though his disease was severe, even in his illness he did not seek help from the Lord, but only from the physicians. Then in the forty-first year of his reign Asa died and rested with his ancestors. 2Chronicles 16:12-13
We clearly see from the Bible that medications are completely compatible with Christianity. But you need to take heed of 2 Chronicles 16:12-13. Asa was a great-grandson of Solomon. He was a King of Judah and in general is considered to have been a righteous King in the linage of the House of David. However, there were times when he relied too much on the things of this world and not enough on God. Perhaps that could be said of most of us. The point here is that Asa relied only on his physicians and did not call upon God. So while we should not hesitate to use medications as prescribed by physicians, we should always call on God to help us as well. Addiction is an illness of the mind, body and spirit. It needs physical, psychological and spiritual healing. Are you asking God for His healing and help with your recovery? Are you praying for your physicians and counselors, asking God to give them the wisdom they need to help you? If your addiction has not brought you to your knees already, now is the time!
Pray: Dear Jesus, thank you for your grace and mercy, through the Holy Spirit guide my recovery, give my physicians and counselors the knowledge and skills to help me get through this. Help me be whole in body and soul. Amen.
