Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7
When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom. Psalm 45:4
Successful addiction treatment requires the patient to submit, to surrender and follow the instructions of their physicians and counselors. Most addicts have tried to do it their way, to quit on their own and most have failed. We define insanity as doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results the next time. Isn’t time you stopped the insanity?
It is part of our human nature to rebel, to push back, to want to do it our way; but, how has that been working for you? If your way has not been so successful then consider humbling yourself and listening to the wisdom of professionals who are trying to help you. Without true humility, your treatment is unlikely to be successful.
Pray: Lord give me a humble heart, give me the courage and strength to submit, to surrender to you and to follow the instructions of my physicians. Help me to find wisdom in humility and to accept the victory you promise in surrender. Give me the strength to resist the devil when he tempts me with drugs and alcohol. Amen.
